Quad City Slights Chicago 7-5

The Quad City Jr. Flames (21-16-0-3) hosted the Chicago Force (16-17-2-3) on Sunday, January 31 for the second time in as many days. Despite trailing on two seperate occasions the Flames edged Chicago by a final of 7-5. With the victory, Quad City continued their winning ways with their 10 straight, and closed out the month of January 10-1-0-0.

Similiar to the previous night's game, Chicago took the first lead early in the first period. Eric Szafranski scored on a wrist shot from the circle off a pass from Thomas Forrest.

Neither team managed to find any offense during the time remaining in the first period. Quad City was unable to capitalize on a 1:40 5-on-3 power play. The Jr. Flames finished the first period 0-for-3 on the man-advantage.

During the second period a scoring frenzy began early on. Three goals were scored between the two teams within 40 seconds, and four goals within five minutes.

At 1:17 Andy Amendola tied the game at one with his 25 on the season. Paul Manderfield and Cody Weaver added the assists. The assist for Weaver was his first point as a Quad City Jr. Flame.

Eric Szafranski came right back for Chicago at 1:40 with his second goal of the game form Thomas Forrest and Austin Cihak. Chicago took their second lead at 2-1.

17 seconds later the Flames tied the game at two. R.J. Rick notched his 15 of the season unassissted.

Keegan Kavanaugh gave the Flames their first lead of the game at 6:15 on a power play. Scott Eberline and Paul Manderfield were the helpers.

After the 3-2 score Quad City wouldn't give up the lead. Amendola added to the lead at 12:47 with his second goal of the game off the Flames second power play of the period. Paul Manderfield and Scott Eberline helped once again by adding assists.

At 16:52 Dominick Eubank nailed his first goal and point as a Flame. Eubank skated in from the blue line to crank the puck over the shouler of Robert Kennedy. Amendola and Hickson listed the assists.

Chicago closed out the period in scoring at 19:18. Louis Educate made the game 5-3 off a top shelf backhand effort on the door step. Samuel Pinsler and Austin Cihak were given the assists.

The Flames finished the second period perfectly on the power play, going 2-for-2. Quad City also out shot Chicago by a count of 19-to-10.

Quad City opened the final period on the offense. Rick scored early at :56. The goal was Rick's second of the game and 16 of the season. The assists went to Leon and Vesling.

Chicago's Geno Melone quickly answered 31 seconds later at 1:27. Domico and Spica added the assists to help make the game 6-4.

At 6:58 Eric Szafranski scored Chicago's last goal, and also completed his hat trick. The passes came from Louis Educate and Matthew Spica.

Chicago pulled their goaltender during the last minute of play for the extra attacker, but Jerry Rank rifled the puck from the Flames circle to nail the empty net. Rank's goal added the insurance in a 7-5 win.
