Flames Take 7th Straight After 5-2 Win

On Friday, January 22 the Quad City Jr. Flames (18-16-0-3) headed to Peoria for the second and final time of the season to take on the Mustangs (7-25-2-0). Quad City took a 5-2 victory from Peoria, and added their seventh consecutive victory.

In the first period Quad City didn't take long to put a goal on the board. At 4:19 of the first period Keegan Kavanaugh extended his three game point streak when he added his eleventh goal from Andy Amendola. The Jr. Flames scored again at 13:31 off R.J. Rick's eleventh marker of the season from a wrist shot at the goal line. Nick Leon and Zach Veenstra added the assists. The Jr. Flames extended their lead when Kyle Vesling caught a pass from Rick and roofed the puck over Michael OGrady's shoulder.

Quad City out shot Peoria 12-9 in the first while the Mustangs finished 0-1 on the man advantage.

Kyle Vesling helped the Flames to a 4-0 lead at 6:15 of the second period. Vesling slid a rebound home off a Nick Leon shot from the cirlce for his eighth goal and second of the game. Peoria finally answered at 14:18. Bryan Anderson fired a low wrister beneath the pads of David Jacobson to make the game 4-1. Timothy Prinz and Diego Breckenridge listed the helpers.

The Jr. Flames out shot the Mustangs by a count of 17-11.

After Peoria was unable to capitalize on two five on three power plays, Joseph Larson notched an even strength goal at 7:02 making the contest 4-2. The goal was Larson's first of the season after he had caught the puck in the slot after a bounce off a seam. Later in the period, at 13:19 Zach Veenstra passed the puck to Zach Honert on the left point who let a one-timer go, and scored his third marker. Nick Leon posted the secondary assist as well as his third of the game.

The Jr. Flames finished the game with 42 shot to Peoria's 25. Quad City didn't capitalize on either of their two power plays. Peoria couldn't score on five power play chances.

David Jacobson earned his fifteenth win of the season, and fifth in six games.

The Flames play their first home game against Flint (13-23-1-0) after four outings on the road. The puck drops inside the Quad City Sports Center at 12:00 pm ct. The Quad City Jr. Flames Pre-game show begins at 11:40 am with Mike Rieck.
